What is a Free Distributed album?
A Free Distributed album just like a regular album except with a Free Distributed album the fan is encouraged to make copies for anyone who might want one.
Why would I want to Free Distribute my album?
You want people to hear your music and Free Distribution is cheaper then any other technique.
But how does an artist make any money off album sales if everybody copies it?
They don't. The artist needs to think about the (free!) promotion gained for consecutive albums; they will never sell enough if no one knows who they are. They also don't get into debt manufacturing boxes of CDs that may never sell.
Don't I need a record label to promote my album?
A label might be happy to take out lots of exciting ads in magazines, fly you out to TV performances and award shows, produce videos, etc, but remember that if you can't sell enough albums to pay them back for all that, you never see a dime.
How will anybody hear of me if I don't have promotion?
They won't. But there's lots of exciting and inexpensive ways to promote yourself, and the most powerful of those is viral promotion, or, word-of-mouth. This is what Free Distribute is all about.
How do I Free Distribute my album?
Just make a few copies and get them to people who want them. Give them away for free, or sell them for whatever you can get. Ideally, make the disc mixed mode and include the files necessary to print out whatever packaging (labels, booklets, etc) on the CD itself.
How will people know I want them to copy my album?
Write it on the label. Make a sticker. Just make it clear that your CD is free to copy and distribute, even sell.
In the near future we'll help you out with this, and give you some tools to help make this oh-so-easy.
